Nelson Region
Nelson, the sunniest spot in New Zealand, is based between snow-capped
mountains, rolling vineyards and golden beaches and is also the geographic
centre of New Zealand.
Nelson is New Zealand's second oldest city, settled in 1841, and has the
country’s most sunshine hours per year. This sunny and warm climate is the
reason that around Nelson more than 20 wineries are located. The city, with
around 50.000 inhabitants, is surrounded by the three national parks: the
Kahurangi National Park, the Nelson Lakes National Park and of course the most
popular: Abel Tasman National Park.
Don’t miss: |

Nelson Lakes National Park
Nelson is well placed as a base for exploring the
surrounding countryside. Located south of Nelson,
the National Park offers water sports, lakeside
tramping trails and alpine adventures, including
skiing in winter.
The park's long valleys are connected by alpine
passes, which are within the capabilities of fit,
reasonably experienced trampers. Tramping options
range from day walks to 7 days walks or more. |

Abel Tasman National Park
Enjoy the region’s unique combination of coast and
forest. The golden beaches and sparkling turquoise
waters of the Abel Tasman National Park may be
explored by launch or water taxi, a sea kayaking
expedition or by walking the unforgettable Coastal
Track.
Visitors can take a short scenic walk into the Park,
or traverse the entire length of the track in three
to five days, with or without a guide. |

The Vineyards – Taste the
sun
The fruit of the region’s wines is making a big
splash in the world of wine. Innovative and
adventurous winemakers are crafting flavours from a
wide range of grapes to stunning effect.
Many have their cellar doors open for tasting and
also to meet the people behind the wines and learn
about their art of wine making. Take a winery tour
around the region and enjoy with all senses! |
